If finding out about Guillermo del Toro's new THQ/Volition project wasn't enough to get you interested in the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards on December 11, perhaps a first official glimpse at "Batman: Arkham City" will be. "Arkham City" screenshots from the game leaked out earlier this year, but the VGA's will have something a little more glamorous.
The show will "feature world premieres of 'Batman: Arkham City' and the unveiling of the next game from BioWare," according to a post on "GTTV" host Geoff Keighly's Twitter account.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 hit "Batman: Arkham Asylum" will have a lot to live up to. It will be built from elements that were originally intended for its predecessor, though, so it seems fairly certain that we can expect to see a similar flavor.
As far as which rogues or other supporting cast members may show up, that's mostly been kept hush-hush. Harley Quinn, Two Face and Catwoman have all sneaked into stills, but no big surprises have materialized.
If WBIE wants to make a lasting impression for VGA viewers to take with them into 2011, some quick, powerful looks at Batman in action and The Joker doing something outrageous would be baseline standards to meet. An obscure villain or two would be smart fan fodder to throw into the mix as well, though. The bottom line is that gamers have seen innumerable Batman games over the years; "Arkham Asylum" broke the mold, and for "Arkham City" to do the same, it's going to need to come out with guns and unexpected shockers a-blazing.
