'Darksiders 2' Coming, But Don't Hold Your Breath

Darksiders 2

We knew that THQ was plotting to release a "Darksiders" sequel in 2011 or 2012. And though 2012 could still happen, it looks like 2011 is going to have to get scratched out of the picture and replaced with 2013.

"Darksiders 2" is now being planned for fiscal year 2013, THQ CEO Brian Farrell said in an earnings report yesterday. That means the game could still show up as early as April 2012, but the window also goes as late March 2013.

The good news is that if you liked the "Darksiders" Zelda meets "World of WarCraft" approach, there will be both a Zelda and "World of WarCraft" releases coming out before THQ's second installment.

The way things have played out, it looks like THQ either didn't expect to need sequel while they were working on the first "Darksiders" or they've opted to invest in an extended development period for the part deuce. But hey, if you're the kind of person whose friends or family are always complaining that you never know what you're doing two or three years into the future, now you've got at least one answer to give when you prove them wrong.

And "Darksiders" was a surprisingly good romp, so you would be expressing good taste by making such a commitment. If your friends and relatives haven't played it, though, you may have to sit them down for awhile to explain the concept.

Are you disappointed to learn that "Darksiders 2" might not be in stores until 2013? Do you think the first game deserves a sequel? Share your responses with us in the comment section below.
