'Mortal Kombat' Brings Back Jax

Mortal Kombat Jax

2011's Mortal Kombat revamp from Warner Bros. is heading back to the series' roots with violent 2-D gamplay and and a lot of old characters from the first three games. The game's creative director and MK's creator Ed Boon has now confirmed that Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs will be among those characters, and it looks like he'll be bringing his robo-arms along for the pain.

"Jax is in Mortal Kombat," Boon told Gametrailers TV. "He's bigger, he's more badass than ever. He's got insane fatalities."

In fact, the way Boon describes things, it sounds like Jax has fatalities piled on top of fatalities.

"In 'MK 2' he had this fatality where you would clap on the guy's head, the head would explode and he'd fall over, and another one where he would pull the guy's arms off, so we combined the two so he claps the guy's head, pulls his arms off, throws them on the ground; it's pretty disturbing," he explained.

You can also look forward to seeing Jax proudly wrap himself in an American flag and hold his opponents' heads against subway cars as they rumble by and inflict lots and lots of pain. Boon does a little reenactment during the interview, so make sure and wait for him at about the 3:38 mark. The clips make this next MK title look a lot darker than its T-rated predecessor that featured Superman and Batman, and Boon's team definitely looks like they have a few new gory tricks to present.
