Gears of War fans may have softer hearts than their gore content preferences might otherwise suggest. The latest update out of Xbox Live about their T-shirt-based vote on the fate of Clayton Carmine in “Gears of War 3” has “Save Carmine” beating “Carmine Must Die.” So not only have voters been turning out to support Child’s Play; they also want to see him live.
“After a fantastic debut at Comic-Con 2010 and tons of real shirts and Xbox LIVE avatar tees selling by the truckload, Save Carmine has the lead!” the update on the event’s webpage explains. “That’s right — if things continue as they are, a Carmine will actually survive a Gears of War title.”
The referendum ends on Thursday, September 2, 2010, so there’s still time for the death votes to come from behind and score an upset, but right now, survival is winning out. My personal theory is that XBL fanboys are contrarians by nature and just want to see a Carmine brother actually make it through the to the end of a Gears title for once. Also, it’s entirely plausible that people who care about Child’s Play mostly have good hearts and choose life over death when given the option.
Whatever the case may be, you can still weigh in with your own vote for two more weeks by buying a shirt on XBL for your avatar or for your actual body via NECA or Amazon.com. So even if your faction doesn’t come out on top in the end, you’ll still have some memorial swag to remember the event with.
