Microsoft still hasn’t announced an official price point for Kinect, despite Amazon.com, Best Buy and Walmart all opening pre-orders up at $149.99 a pop. That hasn’t stopped Amazon from going ahead and posting prices for Kinect’s launch titles, however, and right now “Kinectimals,” “Kinect Adventures!,” “Kinect Sports” and “Kinect Joy Ride” are all priced at $59.99 there.
I don’t typically pre-order my games 18 months ahead of time, since a lot can change in that span of time. Currencies fluctuate; handheld systems appear and fail or succeed; and let’s not forget that last week’s E3 will be a distant memory and some of you reading this may have children you haven’t even considered giving birth to yet. As for the other games, which are mostly dated for November 4, 2010, even Major Nelson is encouraging buyers to get in on the action.
Those Kinect games looked fun and all, but $59.99 seems like a steep price to pay for a few of them. Part of my instinctive reaction there may just be because I’m used to seeing avatar-oriented games for a bit less on the Wii and from the Xbox Live Marketplace, but that’s what they are nonetheless.
Do you think $60 sounds fair for each of these Kinect games? Would you like to see some better deals by the time the holiday season rolls around? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
