"DJ Hero 2" has already been rumored to feature DJ Qbert, David Guetta, DJ Shadow and RZA. The game is now official, though, and Activision's first announcement lists "Dr. Dre, The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and over 85 others" as definite locks. You should be able to find whoever makes the final cut this fall, whatever the case, along with "over 70" mashups on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.
"'DJ Hero' was the best music game of 2009 and with 'DJ Hero 2' we're delivering a new easy to pick-up, challenging-to-master experience that all players can enjoy together," Guitar Hero COO David Haddad said in a press release. "With new social game modes, the inclusion of full microphone support, all-new levels of creative freedom and an amazing soundtrack, 'DJ Hero 2' is the ultimate mixer of music and friends."
The career-based and battle modes do sound like they'll be worth trying out, as will the "integrated on-screen singing and rapping of lyrics and rhymes."
"We're improving upon all the gameplay elements from 'DJ Hero' that gamers loved with the all-new freestyle gameplay and a host of new multiplayer game modes," FreeStyleGames creative director Jamie Jackson said. "But we're not stopping there either as the award-winning soundtrack is getting bigger songs from hotter artists that our talented crew of DJ's is spinning into hits that fit the gameplay flawlessly."
I still want to see the day that a microphone game properly recognizes my human beat-boxing abilities, and I don't see that mentioned explicitly in the context of the microphone info in the release. Nevertheless, this does sound like a step in the right direction.
