Epic Head Predicts Shift Back To PC Gaming From Consoles

Gears of War 3

Epic Games sees a lot of Project Natal in their future as developers, and they've been notoriously hesitant to bring the Gears of War series back to the PC, at least in part because of piracy. That doesn't change the fact that their head honcho expects to see his industry focus a lot more on PC gaming very soon.

"Most publishers I'm speaking to right now think their money's going to be shifting back to PC and away from traditional consoles, just because folks are in that mode of wanting to spend a little bit of time every now and then, and paying money to save time because there's so much media competing for it," Epic president Mike Capps said in the most recent issue of Edge, according to CVG. "So maybe Facebook will save PC gaming — but it's not going to look like 'Gears Of War.'"

Capps spoke sentimentally about Epic's history making games for the PC, but cited piracy as a major deterrent.

"We still do PC, we love the PC, but we already saw the impact of piracy: It killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model," he explained.

Right now, "Gears of War 3" is an Xbox 360 exclusive, so don't look for it to lead the charge, particularly in light Capps' perspective on the matter. I love certain things about consoles and the PC, and I hope markets for both stick around for a while, but as social media becomes more and more integrated into everyone's entertainment experiences, there's a lot more to do online and a lot more people to reach directly with your products, whether they're games or not.
