Nintendo feels it may have been wall-flowering around for the last couple of years when it comes to party games, but their next cheery Wii games title aims to liven things up a bit. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unveiled a melding of Mario Party and "Wii Sports" sensibilities with a new game called "Wii Party," and the upcoming concoction will feature such games as "International Vacation Game," "Mii Jyan," roulette and "Balance Ship," starring your Miis.
"As you know, 'Wii something' are the titles that we use only with software that Nintendo has developed exclusively for Wii with the aim to make them marquee titles for Wii," a translation reads from a presentation given to investors by Iwata. "We are developing this game with the aim to make it a marquee party game for Wii."
He claimed that a survey indicated 160 millions Miis have been created in Japan, the U.S. and six countries in Europe, and said that it's only natural Nintendo would want to make a party game for them.
"Nintendo has not launched a marquee party game since 'Mario Party 8,' launched in summer 2007,'" Iwata explained. "However, since Wii is usually being played by several people at once and the global sales of Mario Party have reached 7.6 million units, a party title has great potential."
This is one of the titles which, we hope, will play an important role for this fiscal year."
If Nintendo succeeds in replicating the success of the Mario Party games, this should be an impressive party indeed. I guess we'll find out if gamers like their Miis as much as they like Mario.
