Recently gutted EA acquisition Pandemic Studios doesn't appear to be down for the count, even if their operations have been largely shut down. An announcement today confirmed that their leaked project "Mercs Inc." will keep the Mercenaries franchise alive, even if the game's core team will be working on it out of their new Playa Alta home.
“We are very excited to announce a new installment in the popular Mercenaries series because it demonstrates our continued commitment to Pandemic’s rich catalogue of intellectual properties,” EA senior VP and group general manager Nick Earl said in a press release. “From the studio at EALA, a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas for this exciting franchise.”
Pandemic's Word War II sandbox game "The Saboteur" hits in December, at which point its team will shift their focus over to "Mercs Inc.," which appears to be heavily invested in expanding multiplayer action for the series.
Even if the game has been moved to EALA, it's good to hear that the core team on "Mercs Inc." is being kept intact amid all of the changes going on at EA right now. The leaked trailer looks like it has a lot online play potential no matter which platform EA chooses to release it on -- definitely a title to keep an eye on in the coming year.
Do you think EA made the right decision making "Mercs Inc." the next priority for the Pandemic team? What do you think of the multiplayer scenes shown off in the leaked trailer? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
