Rewards program memberships won't be the only thing arriving in email inboxes from Microsoft this week. Russ shared his impressions of Facebook on the Xbox 360 earlier this month, but by Friday Microsoft plans on opening its new dashboard demo up to more users. The update, which will incorporate Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm functionality into the Xbox Live experience won't be ready for everyone this week, but after soliciting sign-ups from existing XBL users, new invites should be out in the next few days.
"We close sign ups later today and (if all goes well) send first wave of notification emails Friday," Major Nelson announced from his Twitter account.
A system update was already released in September to prep Xboxes for the new social media applications. The newly installed software probably makes more sense now, since it should allow participants in the preview to install whatever Microsoft sends their way and take it for a test drive.
If you signed up and don't end up getting invited, though, there's likely to be a second-chance round, much like the rewards program system that was described yesterday. After all, Microsoft surely needs to hit a certain number of test subjects to get a sufficient number of case studies.
