"Assassin's Creed 2" is right around the corner, and as a means of drumming up interest about the franchise, Ubisoft went ahead and commissioned a series of live action short films set in the game's universe.
I actually went up to Ubisoft Montreal to check out the production, as well as learn a bit more about the game, and they weren't kidding around with this one. Apart from having director, full cast and period-accurate costumes, Ubisoft gave the visual effects work to Hybride (which is actually part of Ubisoft). You'd know Hybride for their work on the visual effects in flicks like "Sin City" and "Snakes On A Plane."
Remember that the entire film was shot on a green screen set, so whenever you see, well, anything that's not an actor or prop (like all the sets), it wasn't really there. Kinda staggering when you think about it.
The first episode of "Assassin's Creed Lineage" will be released on October 27th on YouTube. It acts as a prequel for "Assassin's Creed 2," focusing on Ezio's father, himself a secret assassin. Ubisoft isn't yet revealing how they plan on releasing the other two episodes, but Xbox Live seems like a likely spot.
You can check out some of the footage I captured up at Ubisoft Montreal here, and the full trailer above.
