"Borderlands" won't be out on shelves until next week on October 20th, but Gearbox pulled the curtain away from its first DLC package today. "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" will be the title for the optional game expansion, and Gearbox wants it out by the end of 2009. So if you pick "Borderland" up in time for Halloween, perhaps armed with its 3,166,880 weapons and the special pre-order guns you received for thinking ahead, it looks like DLC should be around for the holidays.
"The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" will come with a $9.99 price tag for the PlayStation3 and PC and an 800-point ($10) price point on the Xbox Live Marketplace, according to Joystiq.
Granted, it may take about 100 hours to wade through the rest of the game before you're ready for DLC action, but the bottom line is that it will be there.
At first glance, the expansion DLC looks like a post-apocalyptic zombie homage to "The Island of Dr. Moreau," which the title seems to imply. Obviously, there's a doctor involved somehow, and the the creatures roaming around the promo images seem to be stitched together and blood-soaked.
