Exclusive: Insomniac's Top 5 Weapons in 'Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time'

Ratchet and Clank

What makes a "Ratchet & Clank" game tick? The humor? The strange new worlds? Captain Qwark? While we'd certainly argue the latter, one would be hard-pressed to not mention the massive (and oftentimes hilarious) arsenal of gadgets and weapons at our Lombax hero's fingertips. We all have our favorite weapons, but I decided to ping the team at Insomniac to find out what new guns appearing in "A Crack in Time" are their personal picks. So what new destructive force took the cake?

Coming in at number 5… the Rift Inducer 5000.

Rift Inducer 5000 - Guess who's coming for dinner?

Rift Inducer

"The Rift Inducer 5000 is definitely one of the more fantastical weapons we've done in Ratchet & Clank. It's effective, it's tactical, and it's absolutely hilarious to watch. What's there not to like about a gun that rips a hole in the universe and summons a bloodthirsty, tentacled monster named Fred?"

Sonic Eruptor - Harness the lungpower of this alien creature to wreck havok on all incomers.

Sonic Eruptor

"The Sonic Eruptor is perfect weapon for clearing out hordes of Swarmers and keeping groups of melee troopers off Rachet's back. By waiting for the creature's lungs to fill up, the player can unleash a massive sonic blast that tears through enemies."

-Mike Ellis, Lead Designer

Contructo Shotgun - A shotgun with a number of customizable parts.

Constructo

"On its own the Constructo Shotgun is a considerable force, and totally customizable. When outfitted with the Galvanic Upgrade, it is a true tool of destruction. The Galvanic mod gives the Constructo Shotgun the ability to momentarily stun enemies, which gives you just enough breathing room to interrupt even the most powerful enemies attacks. Add that on top of its already considerable firepower and other modifications that can give it wider range or distance, and you have a super versatile weapon that you'll always want to have at the ready."

-Bryan Bernal, Project Manager

RYNO V - Bullets Fly. Missiles Soar. Be thankful you're not on the receiving end of this death dealer.

Ryno-V

"Our fans have some really high expectations for the RYNO V, and I can honestly say - they're thinking small. You would think after this many games our programmers would have run out of ways to wreak havoc in the Ratchet universe, but this one manages to outdo any weapon we've ever made. One squeeze of the trigger vaporizes everything on the screen, all while playing the 1812 Overture. We're talking instant Armageddon - but

in a funny way."

-TJ Fixman, Writer

Spiral Of Death - A fan-created buzzsaw with an extra kick.

Spiral of Death

"The Spiral of Death was the winning submission in the 'My Blaster Runs Hot' weapons contest. It was fan-submitted and fan-voted, so it will always have a special place in my heart for that reason. That said, it is the actual usage that makes it my personal favorite. The weapon fires a spinning energy blade that travels out and then comes back to you,

making it essentially a deadly Yo-Yo. It also accomplishes our goal of adding skill elements to our weapons (where possible) by giving players a chance to score an extra hit if they can keep the enemy between Ratchet and the blade as it returns.

There you have it! A whole team of developers and their favorite new weapon came straight from the fans. What are your favorite weapons from the R&C universe?
