You know you're famous when you become the target of tabloid gossip, and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" appears to have reached that benchmark. Citing message board comments, the UK's Daily Star performed some hard-hitting investigation into precisely what gamers will do with the night vision goggles contained in in the "Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Prestige Edition bundle.
“They’re good enough for stealth dogging/cruising and I think that’s all anyone really cares about,” a British poster named Psychotext said, according to the article. Another, named Majiesto was quoting as saying the goggles will help players to "become the Peeping Tom you’ve always wanted to be."
Infinity Ward seems to be sitting back and enjoying the attention, alerting players to the Star's accusations that they are perverts.
"Hooray! We're tabloid fodder!!" Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling said on his Twitter account. "Oh... and you're all perverts, apparently. Well, if you ask the Daily Star UK that is."
In fact, there are many savory activities that these goggles could be used for. Take late-night firewood gathering in the forest or spying on suspected serial killer neighbors without calling attention to yourself. The Daily Star obviously does not realize what affordable night vision goggles stand to contribute to the institution of community vigilantism.
