"Castlevania the Adventure," Konami's 1989 Game Boy debut for their vampire hunter franchise, appears to be next in line for the company's ReBirth treatment. "Gradius ReBirth" and "Contra ReBirth" have already updated classic Konami properties with new looks as WiiWare downloads. Now, Simon Belmont will follow in their footsteps.
"Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth" received a Teen rating for its Wii incarnation, according to the ESRB's website.
Most of the details will be familiar to anyone who had played its namesake on Game Boy -- or really any of the Castlevania games for that matter.
"This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula's castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats," the game's description reads. "Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches."
Most of that blood wasn't nearly as discernible in grey-scale pixels. It's worth noting that this is the first extended-title sequel Konami has tapped for a "ReBirth" game, though the choice isn't all that surprising considering the first three Castlevania NES titles are already available on on the Virtual Console.
Personally, my world was just rocked to learn that the Game Boy cartridge was in reality "Castlevania the Adventure," rather than "The Castlevania Adventure," which I'd been calling it for the last two decades -- thanks to the box's jumbled logo.
Do you plan on downloading "Castelvania The Adventure Rebirth" for the Wii? Are there any other Konami franchises that you would like to see them bring back via the ReBirth series? Share your proposals in the comment section below.
