The Nintendo World Store played host to the launch of "The Bigs 2" on the Wii, and invited a couple New York Mets to take on the fans in some over-the-top arcade baseball zaniness. Mike Pelfrey (Pitcher, 6-3, 4.26 ERA) and Alex Cora (Second Base/Shortstop, BA .259, 11 RBIs) were in attendance, and while Cora admitted to having an Atari (model unknown) growing up, Pelfrey is much more of a day-to-day gamer:
"I've always had time for baseball and I've always had time for video games. A whole bunch of guys [on the team] play 'Call of Duty: World at War.' We mess around on that and have fun. We play a mode called 'Zombies.'
"[Ryan] Church is pretty good. John Maine plays. Bobby Parnell, Shawn Green, Brian Schneider plays."
Earlier in the day, Pelfrey was spotted playing as Johan Santana in "The Bigs 2." Is he not happy with his stats in the game? Pelfrey's answer was simple: "I wanted to win!"
As for future releases, Pelfrey's pumped about the new "Call of Duty" game. "It's coming out in November, right? I'm pretty excited about that one."
While Cora's not much of a hardcore shooter fan, it doesn't keep him from alternatives. "We've got 'Rock Band' at the Stadium." Apparently Putz (the Mets' currently-injured set-up man) is the go-to singer on the team. "And Church and Beltran are good at the drums," said Cora.
What about Joel Zumaya, the Tigers pitcher who was injured from playing too much "Guitar Hero"? Pelfrey perks up at this: "No wonder we stopped playing it like two weeks ago! The whole team's on the DL, so maybe that's the cause!"
