EA: 'Tiberium' Delayed, Sports Returning To PC Next Year In 'Bigger Way'

In a Q1 2009 earnings call this afternoon, Electronic Arts revealed that tactical first-person shooter "Tiberium" will be shipped in the Fiscal Year 2010, which begins April 1, 2009. The game would be delayed from the expected Fall 2008 ship date.

In discussing expenses related to the acquisition of BioWare and Pandemic Studios, EA CFO Eric Brown made reference to developing an MMO that "will launch in a future year." (We're guessing that's a reference to the "Knights of the Old Republic" BioWare MMO which EA CEO John Riccitiello confirmed was in development in an E3 interview with Portfolio.)

President of EA Sports Peter Moore said the company's sports label will focus on wholly-owned intellectual property and Nintendo platforms with "Facebreaker" for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and its "All Play" Wii brand, as well as "another yet-to-be-announced title" expected to ship later in the year. He also said that "FIFA" will expand beyond Korea to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan and China, and the company expects to commercialize "NBA Street" in Asia later this year.

"As many of you probably noticed this year we cut back on our PC sports games, but only for a year," Moore continued. He said that EA was "re-tooling these titles" to take advantage of online connectivity in "a bigger, more meaningful way," and to stay tuned for more. He added that the company was working on subscription programs that will provide consumers with "great value for their loyalty."
