What We're NOT Playing - Volume 23 (The Charles Van Doren Got A Raw Deal Edition)

cvd_281×211.jpgWhat do Will Smith and Charles Van Doren have to do with each other? Mostly nothing, but they were both indirectly brought up in this week's edition of "What We're Not Playing."

Following the release of "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" last week, the releases this week were a little thin, but not too thin to pick out a handful of games not to play. Read on as "Condemned 2," "Buzz" and even "Smash Bros." get the WWNP treatment.

PatrickKlepek: Trivia games are frustrating because there's always someone who knows every answer.

PatrickKlepek: With someone like that, what's the point in playing?

JasonCipriano: Unless you're that guy.

JasonCipriano: Which sometimes (more often than not) I am.

JasonCipriano: Not to sound like a know-it-all... but I am an abyss of useless knowledge.

PatrickKlepek: If we're doing trivia about the "Hellraiser" movies, maybe.

PatrickKlepek: Other than that, count me out.

PatrickKlepek: Congratulations. I will never play trivia games with you.

PatrickKlepek: (Or at least you better be on my team.)

JasonCipriano: Awesome.

JasonCipriano: I think that means I win

Super Smash Bros. BrawlPatrickKlepek: Why am I doing WWNP with you this week exactly? Your answer has already been telegraphed: anything that isn't "Super Smash Bros. Brawl."

JasonCipriano: That's not necessarily true.

PatrickKlepek: Your posts on Multiplayer don't suggest that!

PatrickKlepek: You comments hog.

JasonCipriano: I can't help it if people like to talk about SSBB.

JasonCipriano: I'm at about 21 hours and I'm a bit burnt out.

JasonCipriano: I didn't even turn it on last night.

PatrickKlepek: Where's the burnout from?

JasonCipriano: Playing it with the Wiimote sideways - it really starts to hurt your thumb after a while.

JasonCipriano: And not sleeping.

JasonCipriano: My game time has drastically outweighed my sleep time the last few days.

PatrickKlepek: "N+" has been kicking the crap out of my thumbs, too.

JasonCipriano: But, the 360 controller isnt like sharp.

JasonCipriano: So... does that mean you're not playing "Brawl"?

PatrickKlepek: Not yet. My girlfriend demands that we play it soon, though. So, eventually. It's what I'm not playing right NOW, but I'll get to it soon enough.

PatrickKlepek: It's the first game she's actually asked for me to make sure we have around.

PatrickKlepek: In a long time, anyway.

JasonCipriano: Wish my girlfriend had those kinds of demands (I love you baby :)).

PatrickKlepek: My choice for WWNP of the week is actually "Condemned 2," but not because I don't want to play it, but because I haven't finished the first one yet. I've been paused about halfway through since the Xbox 360's launch.

JasonCipriano: Is there any particular reason you didn't finish the first one? Hit the wall? Lose interest? Find something else better to play?

PatrickKlepek: It's due to a requirement that I only play scary games late at night.

JasonCipriano: Well that's a new one.

PatrickKlepek: And I don't always have time to do that, nor do I always want to play a game where the tension is ramped up to 11.

PatrickKlepek: So I just sort of forgot about it.

PatrickKlepek: But now I'm wondering if I should pick it up again and finish it off before diving into "Condemned 2."

JasonCipriano: I'm fairly certain its a relatively short game

PatrickKlepek: Yeah, it is short. I think I'm determined to finish it first. We'll see.

JasonCipriano: More and more games have "scary" elements ... How do you draw the line? "BioShock," for example ... scary or not?

PatrickKlepek: It's a horror game. It's meant to be scary, but it's not on the same level as, say, "Silent Hill."

PatrickKlepek: Are you going to play it?

JasonCipriano: "Condemned 2" ... I don't think so.

JasonCipriano: I never even played the first.

JasonCipriano: Which I bought a used copy of specifically to contribute to my Achievement quest.

JasonCipriano: But I never got around to it.

PatrickKlepek: It'll make you look at homeless people in a whole new light. Crazed, alien-infested homeless people, anyway.

JasonCipriano: There's aliens?

JasonCipriano: Oh ... now I'm not going near it.

PatrickKlepek: Pff. "Independence Day" comes out on Blu-ray this week, too. It's an aliens kind of week.

PatrickKlepek: I'm sort of mildly interested in "Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles" on DS.

PatrickKlepek: I have no idea what it's deal is, though. I didn't play the GameCube one.

JasonCipriano: I think it's some kind of multiplayer role playing game that, if anyone else from Multiplayer was contributing today, it would be on their WWAP (What We Are Playing) list.

JasonCipriano: My picks this week ... it's kind of a double whammy ... are the two "Buzz" Trivia releases.

JasonCipriano: "RoboJam" and "The Hollywood Quiz"

PatrickKlepek: Ah, I've only briefly played the series once, but I'm terrible at trivia. I'm not a masochist. So I gave up.

Buzz!JasonCipriano: I didn't think I would like quiz games on a video game system (except "You Don't Know Jack" ... those games are amazing) but "Scene It?" proved otherwise ... but, I already have "Scene It?" Why would I need another movie quiz game?

JasonCipriano: Especially one that I need to have my PS2 hooked up to play.

JasonCipriano: I'm pretty certain my PS3 won't recognize those "Buzz" controllers

JasonCipriano: So ... is there anything else not making the cut for you this week?

PatrickKlepek: Fortunately, I think, all the games that aren't making the cut are only missing out on my play time because I can't get to them yet.

PatrickKlepek: And at least one of them I can share with my girlfriend.

PatrickKlepek: That's pretty win-win.

JasonCipriano: Yeah... that sounds about right for me too (minus the girlfriend part ... I can only seem to get her to play "N+" with me actually)

PatrickKlepek: Woo hoo! High five to both of us.
