Totilo Games Played In 2007 - The DS List (Plus A PSP And A Wii Straggler)

Chibi RoboThis is the ninth and final entry in a series of posts about the games I played and/or finished for fun for the first time in 2007. For comparisons' sake, see my 2006 list. My previous post in the series was about the PSP games I played.

As much as I played the DS in 2007, I don't remember it being a very good year for DS games. There was some good stuff, but very little that struck me as great. I found that mildly disappointing, given the quality of the DS line-up in years past. Still, I had some fun...

My DS Games I Played For Fun 2007 Playlist

(Games I finished are in italics)

1) "Chibi Robo: Park Patrol"

I played this gardening-simulator-slash-action-game for many hours. I was determined to fill Chibi's dirt-filled lot with a forest of daisies. Then I got frustrated by the shortness of the game's days. Chibi needed to recharge for the night far too often. I did build a clock tower that seems like it can slow down time in Chibi's world. Maybe that's what I need to activate to more fully enjoy the latter half of the game?

2) "Contra 4"

Too hard for me.

3) "DK: Jungle Climber"

Tingle DS4) "Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland"

AKA "The meanest game Nintendo ever made." You readers tell me it has one of the best endings in a game, and you know I love interesting game endings. That means I have to go back? Oh man, what I do for this blog...

5) "Geometry Wars Galaxies"

It's presents a tamer picture than the graphical insanity that is the Wii version, but it's pretty fun nonetheless.

6) "Hotel Dusk"

We need more black-and-white murder mysteries on our video game consoles.

7) "Kirby Squeak Squad"

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass8 ) "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass"

I believe I have written enough about this one.

9) "Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck"

10) "Lunar Knights"

Fans of this game, please explain yourself. I preferred the visual design of "Boktai" and couldn't get over this game's GBA-ness. Yet some folks say this is one of the DS' best games. Really?

11) "Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2"

This is the third game in the series, the first of which was only released in Japan (and is a lot of fun) and the second of which is "Elite Beat Agents."

Nervous Brickdown12) "Nervous Brickdown"

Lots of odd tweaks to the standard "Bureakot" formula, including one of the only useful implementations of Huff-n-Puff controls I've encountered on the DS.

13) "The New York Times Crosswords"

14) "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -- Justice For All"

15) "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -- Trials and Tribulations"

And they just announced the next one comes out next month? I need to get back on this.

16) "Picross"

This was my favorite DS game of the year: a bunch of logic puzzles that reward you with pictures. Sounds dull, right? It's not. It's really good. Just don't play the online speed-matches, because you will get smoked by hardcore Japanese players.

17) "Planet Puzzle League"

Pokemon Pearl18) "Pokemon Pearl"

I gave it about a dozen hours. I get it, but it's not for me.

19) "Transformers: Decepticons"

I enjoyed the online meta-game aspect to the "Decepticons" and "Autobots" versions, which basically pit players of one version against the other in daily contests. You put your system on WiFi, download the daily challenge (which is played in single-player), do your best at it, and thereby score points for your side of the Transformers war. Whichever side has the most points at the end of the day takes a node on a map. This kind of thing isn't that rare on PCs. Well, the rest of gaming needs it too.

20) "Wario: Master of Disguise"

Yes I finished this. No, I don't have a good explanation.

That's it for my DS adventures. Did I miss anything great?

P.S. I forgot to mention two other games earlier in this series. In the Wii post, I should have noted that I completed "The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess" in 2007. I also finished the PSP's "Daxter," for an unusual reason that I wrote about in February (Scroll down to the 02.08.07 entry).

Final 2007 Games-Played Calculations

In 2006 I played 102 games for fun and finished 21.

My final 2007 tally is: 118 played; 35 finished.

I don't think I'll break that mark in 2008, not if I want to keep my marriage.
