What We're NOT Playing - Volume 9 (Sorry 'Assassin's Creed,' 'Crysis,' 'WWE')

racecars.jpg So we're one day late on "What We're NOT Playing" this week.

Sorry... we've been a little busy. Not only with MTV Gamer's Week going on right now, but also with all the great games that recently came out. Games we've been waiting all year to play, like "Super Mario Galaxy," "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles" and "Call of Duty 4."

And we could talk all day about the games that we've been itching to play (or are currently playing) -- but that's boring. Let's talk about the games we're not touching until a snowy day in January (or in Hell). This week, we send our apologies to the games we just can't get to right now, including the latest in the "Need For Speed" franchise:

TraceyJohn: I guess I won't be playing "Need for Speed ProStreet"

JasonCipriano: why not? it's supposed to re-invent the series

GeraldFlannory: i don't know about re-inventing the series, but the online additions seem pretty tight

JasonCipriano: the "Need for Speed"s really aren't too too bad

GeraldFlannory: they aren't, it just feels like every time you look, there's a new one out!

TraceyJohn: yeah, I have nothing against the "Need For Speed" franchise

TraceyJohn: but they're like "Madden" games

JasonCipriano: hahaha

See what other titles we're leaving in the plastic wrap...

TraceyJohn: Ok let's get this started! It's been crazy. A ton of games came out.

TraceyJohn: A lot of good ones we've been hearing about all year!

GeraldFlannory: yup, it's about that time!

JasonCipriano: Gamespot has 70 releases listed for this week

JasonCipriano: so I think it's safe to say that most of those aren't getting played

TraceyJohn: Right. I feel like there's more that I want to play than not play. But let's talk about the games we're not going to even THINK about touching for a while!

GeraldFlannory: i'm eventually going to play sometime next year

GeraldFlannory: but for now i'm not playing "Assassin's Creed"

TraceyJohn: Why? Because of the reviews?

JasonCipriano: because you hate kristen bell?

GeraldFlannory: i was really hoping that joint would be the next step from the "Prince of Persia" games

TraceyJohn: but...?

GeraldFlannory: but across the board the game has been a disappointment

JasonCipriano: maybe the standards were just set too high

TraceyJohn: I think the hype was almost too much

TraceyJohn: You're like setting up a game for disappointment with all that hype

TraceyJohn: Did you lose faith after the E3 demo or was it something after that?

GeraldFlannory: i'm not going to give away the story, but i read that it was one of the weakest parts of the game

GeraldFlannory: after the E3 demo, i gave Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt because it was still early

JasonCipriano: not that early

JasonCipriano: he was blinded by jade raymond

GeraldFlannory: nah, i didn't get all googly-eyed like all these other gamers out there by her

"I didn't get all googly-eyed like all these other gamers out there by [Jade Raymond]."

TraceyJohn: heh, me neither!

GeraldFlannory: no matter how good she looks, that ain't gonna help the game at the end of the day

GeraldFlannory: and thats what i'm spending my dough on!

TraceyJohn: so what did it G? what specifically made you go, "I'll wait on Assassin's"

GeraldFlannory: all the reviews

TraceyJohn: i said that before!

GeraldFlannory: oops!

GeraldFlannory: but all the major outlets all agree that it is a disappointment

GeraldFlannory: and like I said, after the great series that was "Prince of Persia," i can't believe they dropped the ball!

JasonCipriano: again ... all the major outlets had high standards no doubt

GeraldFlannory: they should

GeraldFlannory: the "Prince" games brought that franchise back in so many ways

GeraldFlannory: all the while introducing refreshing new gameplay

GeraldFlannory: you really felt like an acrobatic character and the environment was your playground

GeraldFlannory: and the story as well as characters were really well done

GeraldFlannory: the dialogue was some of the best

GeraldFlannory: especially in the last game

JasonCipriano: so ... "Assassin's" is no "PoP"

GeraldFlannory: basically

JasonCipriano: deal with it ... move on ... there's enough other games to play

GeraldFlannory: i guess I was hoping it would be the next evolution

JasonCipriano: or not play ... whatever the case may be

GeraldFlannory: true that homie!

JasonCipriano: What's the lady of the room not playing this week?

GeraldFlannory: yeah Tracey?

TraceyJohn: It's tough because there are more games I want to play but just won't get to... but completely avoiding? hmmm....

GeraldFlannory: well, what can you live without playing now?

TraceyJohn: I guess I won't be playing "Need for Speed ProStreet"

JasonCipriano: why not? it's supposed to re-invent the series

GeraldFlannory: another one of those games

GeraldFlannory: i don't know about re-inventing the series, but the online additions seem pretty tight

JasonCipriano: no ... wait ... the press release says ... it "makes a sharp turn"

GeraldFlannory: ha "sharp turn"

GeraldFlannory: i love press releases

TraceyJohn: well i guess that's kind of a cop out to choose that though, but i also don't have to play every iteration of a driving game...

GeraldFlannory: all the better Tracey!

JasonCipriano: the "Need for Speed"s really aren't too too bad

GeraldFlannory: they aren't, it just feels like every time you look, there's a new one out!

"It just feels like every time you look, there's a new ['Need For Speed'] out!"

TraceyJohn: yeah, I have nothing against the "Need For Speed" franchise

TraceyJohn: but they're like "Madden" games

JasonCipriano: hahaha

GeraldFlannory: yup!

JasonCipriano: same publisher

JasonCipriano: coincidence?

JasonCipriano: i think not

TraceyJohn: yeah exactly.

GeraldFlannory: that's why EA cracked on their "Madden" games in "The Simpsons" joint!

TraceyJohn: So to answer G's question from before, about what I can live without playing for now...

TraceyJohn: While I do want to play "Rayman Raving Rabbids 2" because I loved the first Wii one

TraceyJohn: That will have to be on the backburner because of titles like "Super Mario Galaxy" and "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles"

TraceyJohn: It's just that right now great games must be sacrificed for even better games

GeraldFlannory: yup

TraceyJohn: So sorry "Rayman," while I love those bunnies, I love Mario and zombies more right now

GeraldFlannory: Oh yeah

GeraldFlannory: italian plumbers and flesh-eating zombies!

GeraldFlannory: what more could you ask for?!

"Italian plumbers and flesh-eating zombies! What more could you ask for?!"

TraceyJohn: exactly!

GeraldFlannory: anybody messing with "Kayne & (i'm so hard i'll kill you with my looks) Lynch"?

TraceyJohn: ha

TraceyJohn: I will definitely give it a try eventually

GeraldFlannory: that game might put hair on your chest!

TraceyJohn: lord knows I need more of that!

JasonCipriano: or blood on your glasses

GeraldFlannory: I won't be messing with "BlackSite: Area 51"!

TraceyJohn: oh, why?

GeraldFlannory: i'm heated they took out the online co-op feature

TraceyJohn: oh that's right

GeraldFlannory: i think that was the lone saving grace for a generic shooter

GeraldFlannory: running through it with another friend would have made it worthwhile

TraceyJohn: we could've blasted aliens together in the comfort of our own homes

TraceyJohn: but now I have to come over

TraceyJohn: and I'm too lazy to do that

GeraldFlannory: i guess i got to clean my crib then!

TraceyJohn: yes, put all that porn away please

GeraldFlannory: shhhhh...

GeraldFlannory: i told you not to say anything woman!

TraceyJohn: oops!

JasonCipriano: and that's my cue ... i gots work to do

TraceyJohn: you didn't pick a game

TraceyJohn: no copping out

JasonCipriano: if i have to pick a game - it'd be "WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008"

TraceyJohn: ha

GeraldFlannory: oh yeah

TraceyJohn: why?

JasonCipriano: because ... well ... wrestling's Totilo's thing

JasonCipriano: i'll leave that to him

TraceyJohn: Totilo's not here because he wanted to avoid us making fun of his wrestling obsession

GeraldFlannory: the thumbmasher!

JasonCipriano: the wii version might have some potential

GeraldFlannory: i don't know how those games still interest people

JasonCipriano: i just don't care anything about the characters/storyline ... etc... etc... etc....

TraceyJohn: smashing chairs over people's heads in a game seems like it would be fun, but I prefer to do that in real life

"Smashing chairs over people's heads in a game seems like it would be fun, but I prefer to do that in real life."

GeraldFlannory: yeah cip, the Wii version could be worth a look

JasonCipriano: yeah - but again - no interest

GeraldFlannory: but it's still wrastlin'

JasonMitchell: maybe if sonic or snake was in it like "Super Smash Bros." then cip would be interested

GeraldFlannory: hell

GeraldFlannory: everyone would be interested!

GeraldFlannory: including me!

TraceyJohn: you guys just want to see Mario in tights

JasonMitchell: "Smackdown vs. Raw vs. Mario"

GeraldFlannory: I'm sure THQ would love to do that!

JasonCipriano: i don't even know where this conversation just went

JasonCipriano: i'm through here

TraceyJohn: What about you Mitch?

TraceyJohn: We gotta get you to make a pick before we close this thing up

JasonMitchell: i won't be playing "Crysis." Well, i won't be playing anything besides "Mario" and a little "Call of Duty 4" this week, but i won't ever play "Crysis." But only because i don't like playing on a PC

TraceyJohn: I'd try it if i had it. I like shooters on PC better than console

GeraldFlannory: Yeah "Crysis" looks cool

GeraldFlannory: but word has been that it's all style and no substance as well

JasonMitchell: i'd rather play games on my 40" tv then on a 20" monator

GeraldFlannory: well you can hook your pc up to your lcd screen!

GeraldFlannory: BAM!

JasonMitchell: plus i can't afford to keep up with the all the new fangled technology of PCs

GeraldFlannory: yeah, I won't be on "Crysis" as well only because... I'm a mac guy!

TraceyJohn: i'm all PC, baby!

JasonMitchell: you are lame

TraceyJohn: yo mama!

GeraldFlannory: besides tracey, you're on "WoW"

GeraldFlannory: so no other pc game for you FOREVER!

GeraldFlannory: or as long as "WoW" lasts

TraceyJohn: "WoW" is playable on a mac though

TraceyJohn: I actually have nothing against macs

TraceyJohn: aside from the fact that I don't have one

GeraldFlannory: oh snap!

JasonMitchell: who needs another FPS anyway

GeraldFlannory: amen to that mitch

GeraldFlannory: i swear if i see another friggin' fps, im going to flip!

"I swear if I see another friggin' FPS, I'm going to flip!"

GeraldFlannory: that was also another reason I was looking forward to "Assassin's Creed"

JasonMitchell: i'm looking forward to "Dead Rising 2." when's that coming out?

GeraldFlannory: when they make it!

GeraldFlannory: i'm sure they working on it now seeing as how it broke a million sold

TraceyJohn: I hope it's co-op over XBL

GeraldFlannory: hells yeah

GeraldFlannory: I hope you're reading this Capcom!

TraceyJohn: Ok, so let's wrap this up since everyone is busy... any last words?

JasonMitchell: make me say something smart

JasonMitchell: it's been a long week

JasonCipriano: such a long week

TraceyJohn: Hi Evan!
