Three Events in Two Days (Or: Watch Out For the Sword Tip, You Idiot)

I'll come right out and say it: I got stabbed on Wednesday. Then, instead of going to the hospital, I went to eat many delicious meats on sticks.

Game companies love to string game events together. It saves everyone a great deal of hassle in terms of cost, logistics, and journalist management to have a lot of game nerds centered in one spot for a few days so they can see a bunch of games in a short period of time. That explains how Buena Vista Games, Sony Online, and Konami each held separate video game-related events in San Francisco on Wednesday and Thursday.

Konami proved to be the highlight of the two-day whirlwind, with the company announcing a host of game titles such as Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, Dewy's Adventure, Hellboy, and about 10 other titles. The event was highlighted by the crowning of a king and queen who earned their titles by competing in a minigame from the goofy dating simulator Brooktown High: Senior Year.

Earlier, Sony had celebrated the release of its new massively multiplayer Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, a game that had already hit stores. This seemed little more than an excuse for game writers to gorge themselves and look at bad fantasy art?but game writers seldom if ever need an excuse to drink free booze and eat someone else's food.

And earlier still, I got stabbed fencing. Buena Vista was showing off its Pirates of the Caribbean massively multiplayer game and decided it would be a good idea to let game writers have swords and attempt to jam them (called "touches" in the sport of fencing) into the relatively unprotected bodies of other game writers.
