Last week, all of the talk about the 24th James Bond adventure focused squarely on the director’s chair. Earlier talk had Sam Mendes saying that he would not return to follow up “Skyfall” with another 007 film, but now the discussion seems to be about how many Bond movies he’ll direct as his next efforts. Whether Mendes ends up directing “Bond 25,” the next film in the series looks like it belongs to the Academy Award winner, and now rumors are swirling about the next step in making any 007 movie: finding a Bond girl.
If Yahoo! Movies UK is to be believed, that role belongs to Penelope Cruz, the wife of the “Skyfall” villain, Javier Bardem. Yahoo! cites a “source close to the production” that claims producers have been chasing after Cruz for some time.

“The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments,” the source claims. “The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”
Since she’s turning 40 this April, Cruz would be the oldest Bond girl in the series’ history and without a doubt one of the most age-appropriate companions for the superspy.
But this all sounds a little suspect. We were just beginning to sort out this directing business. Mendes still isn’t officially confirmed as the director, John Logan is currently writing the script, and there’s already casting news? The order and timing of it all seems a little out of whack, so we’ll keep our ear to the ground on this one.
