Milla Jovovich And Paul W.S. Anderson Will Return For 'Resident Evil 6'

Earlier this month we told you that Sony had plans to release a sixth installment in the "Resident Evil" franchise. It seemed like a safe bet that filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson would resume his role as director of the fan favorite, with wife and star Milla Jovovich reprising her role as Alice -- who battles nefarious pharmaceutical company, the Umbrella Corporation.

First Showing confirmed that the duo have officially signed on to start shooting "Resident Evil 6" this fall, with plans to honor the September 12, 2014 release date previously announced.

It was hard to imagine the zombie apocalypse and infected/genetically mutated insanity without them. Visual effects will be handled by Mr. X VFX studio -- the same company whose work you saw in the latest film, "Resident Evil: Retribution," as well as "Apocalypse" and "Afterlife."

The movies have never aimed to copy the videogame series that started the franchise, but it's interesting to note that the sixth game was released in October last year to mixed reviews -- many upset that the company went totally action-oriented and practically ditched the horror element the game is known and loved for.

Anderson has indicated this still untitled part in the storyline will conclude the arc that started in the fourth film, "Afterlife," but nothing has been confirmed yet -- including the possibility that this could mean the end of the franchise once and for all.
