Paul Thomas Anderson Working On 'Inherent Vice' Next

As Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, "The Master," slowly reveals itself to the world, the writer-director has already set his sights on his next project.

According to Screen Daily, Anderson, who has previously taken five years between each of his last three films, is currently writing an adaptation of Thomas Pynchons' detective novel "Inherent Vice."

"I'm hoping we can get 'Inherent Vice' going soon," Anderson told the website. "That's what I'm writing now. It’s taking my mind of this, actually. It’s a lot of fun. It’s such a different piece, though. It’s nice to have a collaborator, as it were, through working on the book."

Last we heard about the project, Robert Downey, Jr., who has been attached to the project from the start, hinted to MTV News last December that he's still very much involved.

"Anything to do with Paul Thomas Anderson and I doing a movie together is probably true," Downey said. "We tend to talk about a variety of potential projects, and Thomas Pynchon's 'Inherent Vice' could be great, we'll see."
