Welcome to 2012 — and welcome to the Brawl!
Voting for round one of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 is officially open, giving you the chance to pick the film you’re most excited for in the coming year. Are you foaming at the mouth for comic book movies like “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Marvel’s The Avengers” and “The Amazing Spider-Man,” or are the stunning “Twilight” conclusion and the death-defying “Hunger Games” more your speed? Perhaps it’s one of the two dueling Snow White projects, or maybe you Kitsch fanatics have your eye on “Battleship” and “John Carter.” No matter which movies you’re most looking forward to, this is your chance to defend your champion before 2012 kicks off in earnest.
Here’s how it works: after the jump, vote for the films you’re most excited to see in 2012 from our list of 32 movies. You’ll be able to fight for your movie of choice in this play-in round until voting closes on Sunday (January 8th). Starting next week, we’ll be down to 16 movies. That’s when our bracket launches and the 16 flicks will start going head-to-head, March Madness-style, in single-elimination contests — until only one movie reigns supreme.
So, without further ado, click onward to start voting on your most anticipated movies of 2012!
UPDATE 1: Did your most anticipated movie of 2012 make it into the tournament? If not, you still have a chance to get your film of choice into the competition with our Wild Card round! Nominate your can’t-miss movies of 2012 over here, or tweet them to us @mtvmoviesblog using #mtvmoviebrawl. We’ll add five more high-demand movies into the competition on Thursday (January 5). No time to waste — the Wild Card round is only open for one day, so start nominating now!
UPDATE 2: The Wild Card round has closed, and five new Movie Brawl competitors have been selected! By popular demand, the following movies have been added to the poll: “Bel Ami,” “Cosmopolis,” “Paranormal Activity 4,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D.” You can start voting for these movies right now, but you still have to rally enough support to get them voted into next week’s Sweet 16. Good luck!
UPDATE 3: Looks like you really wanted those Wild Card winners in this tournament! “Bel Ami,” “Cosmopolis” and “Perks” are proving very competitive challengers here at the Brawl, virtually guaranteed to make it into next week’s bracket. But there’s still time to vote. Polls close on Sunday (January 8) at 12:00 PM EST, so make sure to keep supporting your champions until then if you want to see them compete in the brawl for it all.
