Emma Stone just barely missed out on the police hijinks of "21 Jump Street," but she isn't done playing with cops just yet.
The "Amazing Spider-Man" and "Easy A" actress is in negotiations to join the cast of "Gangster Squad," the 1940s cop drama chronicling the Los Angeles Police Department's war on famed mobster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) and his fellow criminals.
If her deal goes through, Stone would play Jean, described by Variety as "a sharp-tongued siren caught in a love triangle" between the drug-dealing Cohen and a squad member played by Ryan Gosling.
Speaking of Ryan Gosling, Stone's pending enrollment in the "Gangster Squad" would signal a reunion between the MTV Movie Awards winning actress and the blonde-haired leading man: the two are about to share steamy screen time together in "Crazy, Stupid, Love," co-starring an impressive cast that includes Steve Carell, Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore.
It's also a "Zombieland" reunion for Stone, as the horror comedy's director, Ruben Fleischer, is stepping behind the wheel for "Gangster Squad" as well. Seeing as a "Zombieland" sequel doesn't look likely — not anytime soon, at least — we'll certainly take any reunion between these two that we can get!
"Gangster Squad" already stars the aforementioned Penn and Gosling plus an all-star array of guys like Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie and Michael Peña. If Stone joins as well, it's icing on an already awesome cake.
