'Bourne Legacy' Recruits 'Sucker Punch' Star

Oscar Isaacby Danica Davidson

When Guatemalan-born actor Oscar Isaac tried out for the lead role in “The Bourne Legacy” — the fourth film in the “Bourne” movie series — he was turned down. But it wasn’t because his acting skills didn’t impress director Tony Gilroy. In fact, while Gilroy didn’t give him the lead, he wouldn’t let the actor walk away completely empty-handed.

According to Deadline, Isaac has been cast in the "Bourne" continuation as Number 3. While that may sound like the name of an extra, it’s actually an important assassin character in the flick. He'll star alongside new lead Jeremy Renner and such big-name actors as Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.

Though Isaac might not be a household name, his acting work has impressed critics. A graduate of Julliard, he’s been in such diverse films as “The Nativity Story” and “Sucker Punch.” He’s also been in the TV show “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and has acted in more than one Shakespearean play on stage. Right now he’s in the middle of filming “Steel Town.”

Even though it's not the lead role, one imagines that Isaac is more than happy to still be an important part of the Robert Ludlum franchise. And who wouldn’t enjoy playing a brainwashed killer in a feature film? Should be a lot of fun to watch!

[Editor's Note: Isaac was my favorite component in "Sucker Punch," and I was incredibly disappointed that he didn't win the "Bourne" lead. This is a very nice compromise. Let's hope it works out!]
