Tom Cruise Breaks Type For Jack Reacher Series

Tom CruiseTom Cruise is a perfect fit as Ethan Hunt, but perhaps he's reaching a bit with his next proposed role.

The "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" actor is reportedly in negotiations with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star as drifter Jack Reacher in an adaptation of "One Shot," based on the popular Reacher thrillers from author Lee Child. "The Usual Suspects" writer Christopher McQuarrie would write and direct the film. Cruise's casting is undoubtedly a bit of a curveball for fans of the Reacher series, since the character is described as 6'5" and roughly 250 pounds — not exactly Cruise's physical type.

Stewart "Rises"

As always, there's no word on who Stewart is playing.

"Bridesmaids" Heads To "Jump Street"

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's "21 Jump Street" just got a whole lot cuter. Ellie Kemper, known for her hilarious roles on "The Office" and most recently in "Bridesmaids," has scored a key role in the comedy as Ms. Griggs. Variety describes the character as "an annoyingly sincere chemistry teacher who's attracted to Tatum's character and surprised when she discovers he's not a real student."

"Gatsby" Meets His Match

There aren't a lot of crucial roles left to fill out for Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of "The Great Gatsby," especially now that Jason Clarke has been hired to play George Wilson. THR reports on the casting, reminding us that Clarke's character has a pivotal role to play in the climax of F. Scott Fitzgerald's widely adored novel.

Miller's On The "Road To Nardo"

THR also reports that "Cloverfield" and "She's Out of My League" comedian T.J. Miller is in negotiations for a lead role in "Road to Nardo," Scot Armstrong's comedy about two roommates who brave dangerous odds to rescue their friend Nardo, who's naked and stranded in Mexico.

Tupac Is Unknown

The Los Angeles Times has a brief update on the developing Tupac Shakur biopic's casting search, stating that producing company Morgan Creek is leaning towards unknown actors with "a similar look and background to the Harlem-born, California-raised star." If you fit that bill, that's your cue! The report also states that Antoine Fuqua, who recently entered negotiations to direct Eminem in "Southpaw," remains attached to the project.
