You don't have to look far to find some serious badasses at the movies this year, but in the end, there's only room for five of these fearsome foes to compete for the Biggest Badass Star at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards — and, of course, only one of them can walk away as the winner.
But who's going to take the prize? Will it be one of the more familiar comic book heroes? The dreamy dream thief? The secret teenage alien? The newest karate kid? Read on for a primer on all of these badass nominees, then cast your vote for Biggest Badass Star today!
Robert Downey Jr., "Iron Man 2"
Tony Stark is pretty much the epitome of badassery: he's a hard-drinking billionaire beloved by women everywhere, and he gets to enjoy his perpetual partying lifestyle while kicking bad guy butt inside the comfort of his technologically superior Iron Man armor. Doesn't get much more badass than that.
Chloe Grace Moretz, "Kick-Ass"
If there's two words to take away from "Kick-Ass" (other than, you know, "kick" and "ass"), it's "Hit-Girl." The pint-sized crime-fighting killer is one of the baddest warriors on the block, thanks to some very harsh training from Big Daddy.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "Inception"
Zero-gravity fight sequence, anyone? Stealing a kiss from an unsuspecting dream architect? Yeah, the calm and collected Arthur certainly counts as a major badass in our books.
Alex Pettyfer, "I Am Number Four"
Surviving high school is no easy feat. Surviving high school as an alien, though? Maybe a little bit easier—if you take the rival alien species that's doing their damndest to hunt down and destroy you from the equation, that is. He's Number Four, technically, but he might be the number one badass of the year.
Jaden Smith, "The Karate Kid"
Nobody can ever replace Danny LaRusso in our hearts, but Dre Parker gives him a run for his money as the newest karate kid on the block. With determination in his heart and Jackie Chan's guidance at his disposal, Dre should be kicking plenty big-screen ass for the foreseeable future.
