EXCLUSIVE: Zoe Kravitz Talks About Her ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Character, Expects To Shoot Next January

Mad Max: Fury Road” is coming. No, really, it is.

Though it’s had to plow through more than a few roadblocks on its way towards the big-screen, George Miller’s long-developing resurrection of the “Mad Max” brand is very much still in the offing, according to co-star Zoe Kravitz. Zoe, who stars in this summer’s “X-Men: First Class” as mutant Angel Salvadore, spoke with MTV News last week for our Summer Movie Preview and said that as far as she knows, shooting is set to start in January 2012.

“I heard the other day that we should be good to go in mid-January, we’re supposed to go to Australia to start. I guess there’s a point where you say, ’yeah, yeah, yeah,'” she laughed. “But I hope it gets made. They’re saying it is. I’ve had this role now for over a year and they’ve done a great job at staying in contact and reassuring me that the film is going to happen. They’ve put together such a cool cast and I know they’ve started building a lot of the vehicles and cameras and they’ve really been in pre-production for such a long time, so I think it’ll happen.”

Kravitz’s role in the new “Mad Max” has been shrouded in mystery, with her character supposedly named Five Wives. We asked her to elaborate on her character, and she explained that, no, she’s not trying to one-up Armie Hammer as the Winklevoss twins—she’s only playing one of the five wives.

“There’s a group of five women being taken from one place to another place, and I’m one of those women,” she teased. “So they call us the five wives. There are five women who are five wives. No, I’m not playing all five wives.”

That’s assuming she’s playing even one of these wives if “Mad Max” finally does get off the ground. Zoe said she’s confident that the movie would get made, but she won’t believe it until she’s finally on a plane headed to Australia.

“I really hope it happens, because George is amazing and Tom Hardy is too. I love the film. And I think the best time to make it is probably right now. George wants to push the limits with the stunts, make it all really real. Because even by today’s standards, a lot of the stunts from the original ’Mad Max’ are very impressive… so what we’ll do now, that’ll be pretty mind-blowing.”
