Ryan Gosling Could Ride With Johnny Depp As ‘The Lone Ranger’ In Today’s Casting Call

Ryan Gosling could be adding a high-profile role to his already-diverse resume: The Lone Ranger.

The Wrap reports that the Oscar-nominated actor has begun early talks with Disney to sign on for Gore Verbinski’s big screen version of “The Lone Ranger.” While it’s certainly a different choice for the indie favorite, here’s a big incentive: Johnny Depp would play Tonto to Gosling’s Ranger.

But he may not be able to ride off with the part just yet, as his increasingly busy schedule (including “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “Logan’s Run“) may not permit him to take part in the blockbuster-to-be, which is slated to hit theaters by 2014.

Check out the rest of Monday’s biggest casting news in Hollywood and find out who joined the casts of “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Perks of Being A Wallflower.”

The Gotham Mayor Sworn Back In Office
To “Lost” fans he was known as the eternal Richard Alpert, but to the citizens of Gotham City, he is mayor. According to Variety, actor Nestor Carbonell has signed up to reprise his role as the Mayor of Gotham for “The Dark Knight Rises.” Carbonell joins many of the returning cast members for Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” follow-up, including Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine.

Paul Rudd And Nina Dobrev Discover “Perks”
The perks of being a wallflower? Having Paul Rudd and Nina Dobrev join the cast of your movie. Hollywood Crush reports that the two stars have signed on for the film adaptation of the beloved YA novel “The Perks of Being A Wallflower.” Dobrev, best known for her work on the teen-friendly series “The Vampire Diaries” is rumored to be taking on a lead role, while Rudd, who is known for all-around awesomeness, will take a spot in the supporting cast. The cast also includes Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Mae Whitman.

Anna Faris To Continue Conquering Comedy World
Anna Faris knows comedy. So it’s of no surprise that the actress has been pegged to a new, not-yet-titled comedy about having a crazy, stalker-like roommate. Turns out, Faris knows a little bit about that, too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The idea for the project came from Faris’ reps, after they heard the comedienne recount a funny incident that happened to her in real life.” Paramount, who allegedly picked up the project, had no comment for THR.

Jason Statham To Continue Kicking People’s Asses
Variety has also reported that action star Jason Statham is in negotiations to take part in Taylor Hackford’s upcoming killer thriller “Parker.” In it Statham would play a thief/occasional killer who lives by his own moral code. The movie, which is adapted from the book series by Donald Westlake, will be penned by “Black Swan” scribe John J. McLaughlin.
