Spring is in the air, and you know what that means: it's time to go back to the "Caribbean."
Yahoo premiered the latest trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," and it's the best look yet at the upcoming film. The Rob Marshall-directed installment of the "Pirates" saga looks as close to the spirit of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" that we've seen since it hit theaters, winning us over instantly with its charming manipulation of our favorite pirate tales.
After the jump we break down what's new in the trailer, what we loved and why we can't wait until May 20.
Fountain Of Youth
We already knew that the quest for the Fountain of Youth was going to be the main plot point of "On Stranger Tides," but none of the trailers (or the poster) have dealt with it as much as this one, and we love it. Now we finally have a really good sense of what direction the film is going in, and we like what we see.
Captain Jack always has something hidden up his sleeve, and in this case it's his mystical compass that everyone is after. According to the new trailer, the compass is the map that will take its owner to the Fountain of Youth, but unfortunately for Jack Sparrow there is something else he needs as well.
From the first teaser at Comic-Con this summer, the fact that mermaids were going to be in "On Stranger Tides" was put out in the open, but what we didn't know is that a mermaid is the necessary final key to find the Fountain of Youth, or just how dangerous they are.
We missed her in the recent teaser poster, and are more than happy that Penelope Cruz was featured so much in this teaser. It's not that we haven't seen her before, because we have, it's just that we love when she and Sparrow get to verbally spar like with that "first mate" comment.
Black Pearl Is The Enemy
But really, the biggest news to come out of the new trailer is that the Black Pearl, Sparrow's beloved pirate ship, has once again become his enemy. Blackbeard, who we already knew was the major baddie in this film, has commandeered it, which explains why Sparrow needs to turn to Cruz to take him to the Fountain. Somehow we have a feeling he'll get the Pearl back before long, but as Sparrow himself says, it's the journey that's the fun part of the adventure.
