Apparently, there are a lot of people lining up for the job. Deadline reports on an extensive list of actors that are supposedly in the mix for the lead role in Tony Gilroy’s next “Bourne” movie, which won’t focus on Jason Bourne himself, but rather another character set in that same universe.
So, who are some of the candidates looking to join the “Bourne” franchise? Really, it’s almost easier to name the actors who aren’t vying for the project. Aside from the sad exclusion of the free-roaming James Franco, the “Bourne” list is a veritable who’s who of young up-and-coming Hollywood stars.
According to Deadline, the list includes Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer, Taylor Kitsch and Benjamin Walker.
Many of the men on this list already have high profile action assignments on their plates: Edgerton is in “The Thing” prequel, Gyllenhaal has “Source Code,” Isaac is in “Sucker Punch,” Hedlund is the new face of “Tron,” Fassbender is in “X-Men: First Class” and “Prometheus,” Evans is in “Immortals” and “The Three Musketeers,” Pettyfer just launched “I Am Number Four,” Kitsch is set for “Battleship” and “John Carter of Mars,” and Walker is about to step into presidential shoes for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”
That leaves Hartnett, Maguire, Dano and Pitt as the men without major franchises to their names. Maybe that’s why these guys are my favorites for the “Bourne” gig, though honestly, I’m pretty happy with all of the actors being mentioned. It’ll certainly be interesting to see who lands the job.
