But then came the rumors of reshoots. If there’s one thing scarier than Ghostface himself, it’s reshoots. Sometimes they’re accomplished to enhance the picture, oftentimes its a telltale sign of trouble. When it comes to “Scream 4,” already a production that some fans were skeptical about, it was hard to know which way things would land.
Except that these aren’t reshoots. Not according to Wes Craven, at least, who explains to Entertainment Weekly that he’s going back into production not to recapture certain shots, but to create entirely new ones.
“They’re not reshoots,” said the director. “We had a couple test screenings and we saw two scenes where they had moments you could add to and we just saw a spectacular opportunity. Bob [Weinstein] just said to me basically, ‘You go to your dark side and I’ll give you the money!’”
Craven said that while the two scenes were already “really good,” he wanted to make them spectacular: “They were key moments of the script, so we just decided to go back and go for the grand slam on them.”
He added that reports of a misfired ending are also bogus, saying: “The ending is totally kick-ass. We’re not gonna touch that.”
