The last time we checked in on Jason Segel’s “Muppets” movie, he saddened us with news that Paul Rudd will NOT be in the film, but teased the fact that we can expect a bunch of other celeb cameos (maybe Lady Gaga, probably Michael Cera. Hooray for ambiguity!).
Anyway, one lady that audiences will indeed see in the film is Segel’s “Gulliver’s Travels” co-star, Emily Blunt. When MTV News caught up with the charming actress recently, while she was doing press for “Gnomeo and Juliet” with fellow voice talent (and Patrick Stewart impressionist) James McAvoy, we asked about her day on the film. What followed was a hilarious exchange between Blunt and McAvoy — the latter of whom did a fine job of helping prod Blunt for more information.
“I did do a day on ’The Muppets,’ yes,” Blunt told us.
“Who do you play?” McAvoy cuts in.
“I can’t tell you!” she said. We then tried to get her to narrow things down a bit and tell us which Muppets she interacted with.
“It was a whole gang of them,” she explained. “A whole gang of Muppets. It was one of the best days of my life.”
“What? Better than this?” McAvoy asked, pretending to be hurt. “Better than hanging with me?”
Blunt responded by laughing. “Yeah. Seriously better than this,” she said, which prompted a bit of a fake pout from McAvoy.
“You cut me to the quick,” he said.
“I know, I know,” Blunt responded, semi-apologetically. “You were just outdone by Fozzie. Sorry about that.”
Aha! She admitted she hung out with Fozzie. That’s something. We then asked which Muppet was her favorite, going in.
“[The] Swedish Chef I think, is just the best,” she said, which led to impromptu Swedish Chef impressions/singing from both actors.
So did Blunt get to spend time with the Chef then?
“No. But that is all I’m saying,” she said. “God, I just gave that away so readily.”
Who do you think Blunt plays in “The Muppets”? Should McAvoy get a cameo too? Tell us in the comments!
