Beyoncé Knowles To Star In Clint Eastwood-Directed Remake Of ‘A Star Is Born’

A star was born 30 years ago in Beyoncé Knowles, but she is finally ready to proclaim it to the world with the help of none other than director Clint Eastwood.

Deadline has the news that Knowles will be starring in the long-gestating Warner Bros. adaptation of the classic film(s) “A Star Is Born.” Knowles has starred in several other musical adaptations (“Dreamgirls,” “The Fighting Temptations,” “Cadillac Records”), but this will unquestionably be her most high-profile film to date.

Eastwood is also no stranger to the musical genre, though he has been focusing more on directing gritty dramas in recent years. He’s done everything from “Paint Your Wagon” to “Play Misty For Me” to “Honkytonk Man,” and has scored many of his recent films, including “Mystic River,” “Million Dollar Baby” and “Changeling.”

Knowles would be following in the footsteps of Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand as Esther Blodgett (aka Vicki Lester). The film follows an upcoming star who falls in love with an alcoholic performer whose career is in decline.

No leading man is attached to the film yet, but Deadline says WB was originally looking at Will Smith to star alongside Knowles. That seems a little unlikely since Smith has been focusing more on his kids’ careers than his own recently, but Deadline also tosses out Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm has other possibilities. I personally would love to see her star alongside her hubby, Jay-Z, but that seems like an odd pairing to work with Eastwood. Then again, you never know.

Do you think Knowles will be a good leading lady for “A Star Is Born”? Who do you think should be cast opposite her?
