The first official images of Rooney Mara as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" heroine Lisbeth Salander hit the Web yesterday, courtesy of W magazine, and right now they're one of the hottest things the Internet has to offer. Millions of fans have turned to Google to find the images, propelling Mara's name onto the list of Google Hot Trends (quite a coveted honor). It's not hard to see why.
Sporting a jagged black hairdo, lip piercing, "Salander" tattoo across her exposed chest and a whole lot of blood on her hands, Mara looks every bit like the intelligent, emotionally damaged, badass Lisbeth I envisioned while reading Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy. She's even got that "I don't give a s---" look on her face and, more importantly, in her eyes. And so I'm quite excited to see if Mara does justice to the role when David Fincher's American adaptation of the book hits theaters next December.
But Mara isn't the first actress to get pierced, tatted up and Gothed out to play the computer hacker and keen investigator on the big screen. Noomi Rapace originated the role in the Swedish movie adaptations of all three of Larsson's books -- "Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" -- and she also looked like a spot-on Salander.
While it's too soon to tell which actress will do more justice to the part acting-wise, we can certainly debate this point: Which one looks more like the Lisbeth Salander we pictured while reading the books? So check out the photo above (that's Mara on the left and Rapace on the right) and then vote in our poll!
