As "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" continues to chart its course toward a theater near you (it will drop anchor there on May 21, 2011), more and more images and information about Jack Sparrow's fourth adventure have started rolling our way.
Today we've got the first official "Pirates 4" photographs from Warner Bros. -- one featuring Sparrow alongside his former fling Angelica (Penelope Cruz) and another in which Jack and Angelica come face-to-face with the evil Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Click on the photo above to see all six pics.
In addition to pics, USA Today has some new quotes from Johnny Depp and other crew members about their work on the film. So hit the jump to read what Depp and co. have to say and, of course, to see the photos!
"What's most interesting about 'Pirates 4' is you don't have to connect the dots for these subplots and sub-characters," said Depp. "It felt like a fresh, clean slate."
The Oscar-nominated actor added of his new co-star, Penelope Cruz, and her character: "We have our bouts in the film, but there's also this residue of what might have been. It's a kind of love-hate thing... there's a little flavor of both."
In a separate USA Today article, Depp reveals: "There's a side to Captain Jack that's a wheeler-dealer, where he can talk his way out of anything, get out of any situation. But there is also a side to him that can't stand for grave injustice."
Screenwriter Terry Rossio weighed in with his thoughts on the fourth "Pirates" installment, describing it as "a completely different beast" that stands alone from the previous trilogy.
"Jack has perhaps not only met his equal, but also found that she is a kindred spirit who is a con artist at heart as well," Rossio said of Depp and Cruz's characters. "She's not only a romantic interest, but an equal and effective adversary."
