I’ve seen a lot during my brief stay in Paris as MTV’s Ultimate “Tourist” Guest Correspondent — the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and a bunch of other stuff — and I have to say that the Le Meurice Hotel must be the most spectacular hotel in the entire city. It’s the epitome of European elegance… and thus the perfect locale to host “The Tourist” press junket, where I’d soon interview Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Paul Bettany.
(Click on the photo below for a behind-the-scenes look at Gaby’s “Tourist” experience so far, including her sightseeing adventures and the preparations for her celebrity interviews.)
I settled into a seat in the hospitality suite on the top floor to look over my questions for Johnny, Angelina and Paul, all while snacking on tiny sandwiches with the crusts cut off and taking in the view of the gorgeous cityscape. My nerves were tingling, but not in a bad way. I was excited, ready, fired up — you get the picture.
I based my questions on the film. Angelina’s role as Elise in “The Tourist” was a bit different than her roles in the past. Elise doesn’t know any martial arts, and from what I recall of the film, she’s rarely seen in anything but an elegant gown. She’s just a glamorous woman who refuses to let go of her romantic history with ex-banker and thief-of-millions Alexander Pearce. Frank Tupelo, a humble math teacher from Wisconsin who happens to be played by Johnny Depp, is pulled into the turmoil of the frantic search for Pearce. Paul Bettany plays an agent who has become obsessed with the idea of capturing the fugitive.
My first interview was with Paul. I was nervous at first, but I managed to get through the four-minute interview without a problem — except that I almost tripped on a microphone stand as I entered the room. Paul was hilarious and made me feel at ease, and the interview just flew by. The interviews with Angelina and Johnny went by just as quickly as the first. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the videos came out! Make sure to check MTV Movies Blog over the next couple of days to see for yourself!
