Enter Tatum, who is now the front runner for the movie’s lead role, according to Deadline. The studio thought Tatum and Hill made a good on-screen pair, and if all goes as planned production should begin next spring with “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller overseeing things.
If Tatum ends up taking over Depp’s original character Officer Tom Hanson from the original TV series, he might have to play down his age a bit, but he and Hill should be able to pull it off. As for who else could replace Tatum if talks with Sony fall through, there are a few other guys out there capable of doing it.
Chad Michael Murray would fall into the approximate age bracket that Sony seems to be looking at, but it could also be an opportunity for someone who’s traditionally taken on youthful roles like Kieran Culkin or Andrew Garfield to step up.
