‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Gets A Release Date (From Fox) And Some Casting Ideas (From Us)

What with “Twilight” and “Vampire Diaries” and Halloween, vampires are so hot right now. So it’s no wonder that 20th Century Fox has set “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” to hit theaters on June 22, 2012, and casting in now underway on the pic, which rewrites history so that America’s 16th president was secretly a vampire killer.

The film — which is being directed by “Wanted” helmer Timur Bekmambetov, produced by Tim Burton and written by the book’s author Seth Grahame-Smith (also of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” renown) — has the tough task of casting someone as one of the tallest and most recognizable people in our nation’s history. But, hey, if Brendan Fraser could play Lincoln in “Bedazzled,” then surely we can come up with a few actors that will do justice to the role of the president, vampire slayer and all-around beard enthusiast. Hit the jump for our picks.

Daniel Day-Lewis
It’s a little obvious, but Daniel Day-Lewis seems like the best choice for the role of Lincoln. He has the advantage of already looking a bit like Lincoln and he’s got the uncanny ability of being able to slip completely into any role given to him. Like all of the actors on this list, he’s too short to play an accurate Lincoln, but if filmmakers can make Tom Cruise look tall, we have faith they can pull of Lincoln. Plus, Day-Lewis isn’t working on any other projects at the moment; perhaps he’d like to take up a hobby like, say, vampire slaying in his spare time.

Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson is certainly imposing enough to make both an effective Lincoln and action-adventure star. And he had been attached to play the awesomely-facial-haired one in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln biopic (which is now in limbo), so apparently we’re not the only ones who think he’d be a good match. Toss a beard on Liam, dye his hair a few shades darker and get ready for some “Taken“-style badassery with top hats and wooden stakes.

Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp and Lincoln are both are from Kentucky, so they already start off as a perfect fit. Add that to the fact Depp is a Tim Burton regular, has the right look and facial hair for Lincoln, and is a quirky enough actor to pull off this role, we think he could be spot-on for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”… if he can find time in his busy schedule.

Who do you think should play the vampire-hunting Abraham Lincoln?
