Yesterday I spent some time weighing the relative pros and cons of having "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp replace Guillermo del Toro at the helm of "The Hobbit," as had been rumored. While I hold Blomkamp in very high regard, I don't think he's the right guy to bring us Bilbo Baggins' adventures in Middle-earth.
It turns out now that his suspected place on the replacement directors shortlist might not have been so accurate. Vulture reports, via an "insider at his agency," that Blomkamp isn't in the running and, in fact, has not been approached by anyone at the studio. Soooo... whew. I'm much more excited to see what he's actually working on, a mysterious sci-fi flick he's only hinted at but which we now know to be called "Elysium."
