EXCLUSIVE: Carla Gugino Promises S&M, ‘Singing And Dancing’ In ‘Sucker Punch’

Sucker Punch” is one of those movies that might not be on your radar, but it should. Zack Snyder, the director of “300,” “Watchmen” and the “Dawn of the Dead” remake, is finally turning his attention — and his talent for what makes stylish film — to an original story. That story is “Sucker Punch.”

We don’t know much. A young girl is committed to an insane asylum by her jerk stepdad and she slips into an elaborate fantasy world of her own creation to deal with it. MTV’s Josh Horowitz spoke with Carla Gugino, who stars with Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jon Hamm, Michael Jai White and a large ensemble of other talented players, at South By Southwest over the weekend, and she had a little bit to say about her unusual character. Characters.

“I play a Polish psychiatrist in the 1960s,” she said. Well that’s not very strange. “And in an alternate world I play a dominatrix choreographer-slash-madame in a brothel,” she added. Oh. Well… yeah. That’s pretty out there.

“She’s an amazing character,” Gugino continued, “and I’m so excited about that movie and I’ve had such an amazing time shooting it… in Vancouver.”

While she wouldn’t say much more than that, the actress did respond to a rumor he’s heard that “Sucker Punch” will feature a musical element. “I’ve been told I’m not really supposed to say much about it, but yes. That’s all I can say. Yes, there’s some singing and dancing.”
