Rachel McAdams And Marion Cotillard Join Owen Wilson For Woody Allen’s Next Film

For Woody Allen’s upcoming and currently untitled movie, actor Owen Wilson is the director’s unexpected choice as a leading man. The prolific filmmaker has also now locked in two female leads as well — Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard.

Earlier this week, Deadline broke the story that the Oscar-winning Cotillard has been cast to star opposite Wilson in the upcoming France-set movie. Now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that McAdams, fresh off of the success of “Sherlock Holmes,” is joining the cast as well.

As it stands, plot details on the film are heavily under wraps. The movie is going to shoot in Paris — that much is known. As of late, the typically New York City based Allen has brought his considerable wit to bear upon territories outside of the United States, including London in “Match Point” and Barcelona in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” His upcoming movie “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” currently scheduled for a September release, was also shot in London.

In my mind, McAdams is a natural fit to work with Allen given the types of actors and actresses he’s directed in recent years. She has something of that Scarlett Johansson vibe that seemingly appeals to Allen. But Wilson and Cotillard are slightly less conventional choices in my opinion — talented actors to be sure, just not the types I’d expect to see in an Allen movie. I’m certainly curious to see how they all gel together on screen under Allen’s watchful eye.

It’s also worth noting that Wilson and McAdams starred together in “Wedding Crashers,” the 2005 romantic comedy that propelled the young actress into the Hollywood limelight. Perhaps it’s just me, but I’d love to see Allen’s take on the wedding crasher game with these two at the center.
