Now we have to start asking ourselves if “Avatar” has the legs to beat the biggest of all “Titanic” records: top-grossing domestic release of all time. The Leonardo DiCaprio/Kate Winslet-starring sinking ship movie has been sitting in the #1 spot for more than a decade, with a figure that falls just north of $600 million. “Avatar” is more than halfway there, with more than $350 million in domestic box office ticket sales. There’s also the worldwide figures to consider: “Titanic” holds that record too, with $1.8 billion earned. “Avatar” currently sits at just shy of $670 million.
We want to hear your opinion: does “Avatar” have the legs to steal either #1 spot away from “Titanic”? Even if it falls in at #2, what would that mean, to have Cameron dominating Hollywood’s top all-time sales charts?
