-- "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" star Channing Tatum has joined the cast of Roman epic "Eagle of the Ninth," along with Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland and "Sherlock Holmes" star Mark Strong. Tatum will star as Marcus Aquila, sent by Rome to Britain to figure out what happened to the missing Ninth Legion. (The Hollywood Reporter)

-- Even though Vin Diesel and director Rob Cohen were going to re-team for "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," Cohen has since taken on other projects and the extreme sports super-spy simply can't fit into his schedule. Diesel will instead receive direction from "Invincible" helmer Ericson Core. (The Hollywood Reporter)

-- Jet Li is all set to star in his first Chinese-language film since 2007's "The Warlords." There's no word on the plot of "Ocean Paradise," but it marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Xue Xiao-lu. Li will star alongside Taiwanese actress Kwai Lun-mei. (The Hollywood Reporter)

-- TV director Jason Winer ("Modern Family," "Samantha Who?") will try his hand with feature film in "Shining City." Adapted from the book by Seth Greenland, "Shining" follows an unemployed suburbanite who inherits the family dry cleaning business from his recently deceased father. Only it's not just a dry cleaning business; the store is actually a front for a prostitution racket. As you might expect, hilarity ensues. (The Hollywood Reporter)

-- Susan Sarandon has joined the cast of "Money Never Sleeps" (also known as the "Wall Street" sequel). The actress will play the mother of the young trader (Shia LaBeouf) at the center of the story. Cue the "Shia LaBeouf's inappropriate mother comments" jokes. (Variety)

-- Michael Caleo is writing the crime drama "Volcano" for EuropaCorp, with Luc Besson and his pals there set to produce. The focus of the movie will be the small Bahamian island Norman's Cay, which was the evil genius headquarters of Carlos Lehder, right hand man to Pablo Escobar. (Variety)
