‘Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince’ Continues To Dominate MTV Movies Blog In Today’s eBay Prop-Watch

In an IM exchange with Movies Editor Josh Horowitz a few moments ago, I informed him that today had “somehow” turned into a heavily “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”-themed day. His response? “With an opening like that, it merits it.”

He’s right too. “Half-Blood Prince” amassed an insane (and record-breaking) $22.2 million in box office receipts last night for its midnight opening. It’s with no shame then that I gear today’s eBay Prop-Watch towards a cool — if incredibly geeky — bit of ephemera from the first movie, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” It’s not cheap, nor is it incredibly impressive to look at. For a fan who appreciates these things however, it is a treasure beyond value.

I warned you that it was a bit of an eyesore! This here item is a “Title Testing Board” used during the production of “Sorcerer’s Stone.” I’m not up on my production process, but as I understand it the board was used to test cameras on the set before filming started. If the seller is to be believed, it is essentially the first “thing” shot in the “Harry Potter” movie series.

Now whether or not you should believe the seller is another question. He does say that the auction includes “documentation for this historical movie relic,” though exactly what that entails isn’t specified. And though he’s not an eBay Power Seller, he does have positive feedback as a seller for a variety of items. I suppose it comes down to whether you’re willing to shell out $999 (or more, depending on how the auction goes) for something that may or may not be legit.

Not that I really think so many of you are going to run out and start bidding on this item. Or any of you even. I just thought this was a cool relic from the “Potter” days of old, and a fitting focus for our “Potter”-centric day here on Movies Blog.
