I've been bad, dear readers. You may have noticed in the comments for yesterday's eBay Prop-Watch that someone took issue with my posting of a potentially fake movie prop from one of the "Harry Potter" movies. I did explicitly state that there was no definitive proof of its authenticity, but I also recognize that there's a serious collector's market out there for this kind of thing.
Just to be clear, eBay Prop-Watch is a fun daily feature which is meant to highlight cool movie-related stuff that pops up on eBay. This is not meant to be taken as any sort of "official" source for prop-finding. Still, I feel I owe you all a proper Potter relic now. Which brings us to today's selection, which does indeed include a certificate of authenticity.
In the first movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," the young wizard-to-be receives an onslaught of acceptance letters from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. His rotten aunt and uncle tried their damnedest to spoil his good fortune, but the unlikely arrival of a good-natured half-giant helps them see reason.
Today's eBay selection is one of the many Hogwarts acceptance letters that assaulted the Dursley household. It's quite a bit pricier than yesterday's $50 buy, but the seller claims that it is also 100% authentic. So there you go. I apologize if anyone has been misled by yesterday's posting. My advice is to simply enjoy what I put up here and do your research before making any kind of investment.
