eBay Prop-Watch: ‘Harry Potter’ Books, For Muggles And Non-Muggles Alike

For yesterday’s inaugural eBay Prop-Watch I served up a little piece of film history that was excessive in every way. Today’s pick is a lot more affordable, and it earns extra points for being an actual movie prop. Sure there are 6 days left on the auction, but there are also no bids yet and a moderate $50 Buy It Now price.

Oh, did I mention it’s a prop from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone“? No? Huh… you’d think I would’ve done that right off the bat!

Here we have a false front of book spines, presumably situated in the movie on some packed set of bookshelves in a classroom or professor’s office. The low price is probably due to the total lack of documentation, so take the authenticity for what it’s worth.

The seller, an eBay “Power Seller,” claims that the item was purchased in Los Angeles at a movie prop auction. Despite the lack of paper documentation, the wooden backing that stands the thing up is stamped with a “cinema props” logo and lot number. You may have a tough time authenticating it, but $50 doesn’t seem like a whole lot of dough to shell out for a bit of “Harry Potter” lore to populate your bookshelf. Especially with “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” only a few weeks away!
