When we were in her kitchen, Catherine also showed us her personal shooting script, housed in a glass shrine to “Twilight.” While flipping through the pages, we found the now-famous “You’d better hold on tight, spider monkey” line scribbled in a margin.
Catherine explained to us that she’d written the “spider monkey” line the night before they shot the scene where Bella goes for a ride on Edward’s back. She’d also written several other possible chunks of dialogue, and presented them all to Rob -– with her lead actor selecting the “spider monkey” line.
As you can imagine, we had to ask what the other lines were. And, being one of the coolest people on the planet, Catherine was happy to tell us. In fact, she walked over to a computer, went into her personal archives, and printed out the other alternatives for us.
Now, of course, we want to share them with you guys. Head on over to the MTV Movies page to read Catherine’s full explanation of how “spider monkey” came to be, as well as 5 of the 8 alternative lines that she gave us.
Where are the other 3? Good question!
Below is a fun little game we’ve put together for you Twilighters out there. Three of the phrases are actual lines of dialogue, written by Catherine Hardwicke, that Rob nearly delivered instead of the “spider monkey” line. The other one is a fake.
Vote for the line that you think is a phony, then come back on Monday and we’ll reveal the imposter. Hold on tight, spider monkeys –- because we have plenty more “Twilight” saga news that we’ll be rolling out in the next few days!
Which one is fake? Which one is real? Let us know your thoughts!
